Red wine wholly made using the Tempranillo variety. After the alcoholic fermentation, the malolactic process is carried out with 30% in barrels and the remaining 70% in tanks. The ageing takes place in extrafine and fine grain French wood, the majority in new barrels and the rest in one-wine barrels. It remains in wood for 15 months and then in bottles until it is sold.
Macán and Macán Clásico are the joint vision that two great names of the wine world, Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, have of La Rioja. They are very elegant wines, where the harmony of their aromas and flavours show the authenticity of the land from where they come and its capacity to produce great wines.
Macán Clásico is very approachable and expressive, more pleasant and pleasurable when drunk with a marked character of the land from which it comes and a simplicity that makes it very attractive.
Its co-existence is due to the desire to preserve the Bordeaux tradition to produce a first and second wine. Both always coexist and are treated exactly the same from the wine to the classification tasting. The different wine batches of the vintage are then separated, with the two wines being considered individually and showing the differences between them.

Description
Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia was born in 2004 as a result of the joint venture between Tempos Vega Sicilia and the Winemaking Company Baron Edmond de Rothschild. Both firms share the idea of making great wines in Rioja, a unique, singular, inimitable winegrowing region. After a five year period of terroirs evaluation and acquisition of 92 has. of vineyard, the project takes shape in 2009 with the first vintage of our two wines, Macán and Macán Clásico. Our philosophy is to offer a modern and unique vision of Rioja following the Bordeaux model of a first and second wine.
Macán Clásico is a wine deeply attached to its territory. Freshness, fruitiness and delicacy are its signs of identity. It is produced in stainless steel casks; part of its malolactic fermentation in oak; new oak and single use barrel ageing for 12 to 14 months determined only by the characteristics of the vintage. It is balanced in bottle for over 18 months.
Macán Clásico offers the purest expression of Rioja´s Tempranillo. It is fresh, jovial and pleasant.General information

Abundant rainfall and cool winter weather provoked delay in the start of vineyard´s cycle. The situation improved due to high temperatures in spring, early summer and evenly spread rainfall registered in key moments for optimal plant development. These favorable conditions, that represented a healthy vine management, were reinforced with warm weather in July and August. Despite the delay in the cycle´s initiation, ripening suffered a noticeable acceleration up to the point of being a few days ahead of a normal campaign.
Harvest took place last week of September and the first week of October and in spite of the high temperature episodes and sporadic rainfall, the grapes were high quality.Storage, serving and drinking window

Description
Bodegas Benjamin de Rotshchild Vega Sicilia is the joint perspective of two of the world's great names in wine - Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, on La Rioja. It marks the conjunction of sun, earth, water and man in a quest for an inimitable style uniting tradition and vanguard.
The wines are produced within the Rioja Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) designation, where for over 12 years high-quality terroirs were bought in the Alava villages of Samaniego, Baños de Ebro, Labastida and El Villar, and in the Riojan village of San Vicente. The search was one for the complexity and authenticity required to produce harmonious and elegant wines.
Macán Clásico is the clear expression of a pleasantly drinkable wine, for which 30% of the malolactic is produced in the barrel, and involving ageing of wines for 12 months in fine-grain French barrels (new and single-wine).
Macán Clásico is personal, expressive and pleasantly drinkable, marking the union of elegance and simplicity to achieve a very attractive wine. Without doubt a fascinating and easily understood wine.

The vineyard cycle was totally normal, with a mild winter, and a spring with good rains in terms of timing and quantities, which maintained the vines in an appropriate condition both health-wise and in terms of phenology, and a hot end to summer also contributing to the normal scheme of things.
Clear skies in September allowed for unhurried grape picking at each plot - which sought the right balance between the qualitative components, and outstanding health to ensure 2012 was a great vintage.
